Almost everyone has been involved with social networking, whether it is on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and so on. So, social networking is obviously beneficial. A basic definition of social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups (Social Networking). Social networking is beneficial because of job opportunities, staying connected with friends and family, and for educational benefits also.
Many businesses today post job openings on Twitter and Facebook. Businesses used to use just open hat rooms or forums to get potential applicants (Article in Fashion). The problems with these methods are that so many people did it. Social sites weeded out people that maybe did not know how to use one of these sites, so the businesses know that the people know how to use the computer or technology as a whole. Another benefit is that not as many people will hear or know about the opening because it is posted on these sites. Another benefit in the work place is that these sites could help with productivity and innovation of the employees (Reuters).
Another benefit is being able to stay connected with friends, family, groups or clubs, and many other things. For example, our school soccer club uses Facebook to post when fundraisers are happening, when we are going to play a pickup game, and things that are going on with soccer. People using it to stay connect with family can find out when they’re going to have a family reunion or something like that. Another way these sites help people stay connected is how teenagers use it. They need these kinds of things so they can express themselves, discover who they are, or even get help on a project (Neal 28).
The final reason for why social networking is beneficial is that there are educational opportunities also.
A risk that people take when using these websites is they do not always know who is looking at their site. Strangers posing as kids, criminals, and sex offenders all can look at your website (Illian 28). There are ways to stop people from doing this. Most of the social sites have a privacy options so, people can make sure only certain people see their full site. This also always people to be able to block people from contacting them.
People need to get the facts about social networking before making accusations or assumptions about them. Social networking helps people find out what they want to do or find jobs. Staying connected with people is always fun also. It also helps people learn about culture and other people. Social networking is beneficial all around.
